NEO- SCHOLASTICISM

I have already known that neo- scholasticism started with proposition supportive by biblical text that explains something else. It appropriates the Church teachings as the proximate rule of faith. One of the good points of neo- scholasticism is being cognitive because we can know truth grounded from Scriptures and Tradition. In that way, we have a bigger picture about truth. Being cognitive is one of the characters of neo- scholasticism that reminds me on one experience of mine. To know it, let me share it with you.

 

I was not yet a seminarian when my relatives neighbour questioned my Catholic faith. I was afraid because I was not able to answer their question that perhaps led me to join with them. In spite of that, I still held my Catholic faith. I wanted to know my faith that is why when I entered the seminary, one of my intentions is to know the doctrine of the Catholic Church to increase my faith.

 

When I was in my college formation, I encountered some teachings of the church taken from Scriptures and Tradition with the aid of Philosophy I would say that our faith is reasonable. It really needs our faculty of reason and God’s revelation to understand our faith. For instance, the Real Presence, it was revealed by God in the Last Supper. Moreover, we can also know it through metaphysics. Having known that, I would say that the doctrines of my relatives neighbour is wrong because they are illogical for they only explain their teachings according to their own interpretation. Having that experience of mine, I would say that neo- scholasticism helps me for it increase my faith and not to transfer from other sect.

 

VIRTUAL COMMUNITY AND REAL COMMUNITY

            In the article I have read entitle Virtual Community is Real Community. It is stated that Virtual Community is created, gathered, developed and sustained exclusively online. While Real Community is physical, exists outside the internet. It is shown in this article that these communities are interrelated with each other.

            Reflecting at the article, I would say Virtual Community exists with the help of the technology which is real. Moreover, its existence comes from the needs of the Real Community. That is to connect person who are far away from each other. These two communities are interconnected with each other in as much as the Real Community can be developed by the help of Virtual Community and vice versa.

With that, Virtual Community is paradoxical. It is real at the same time illusion. Real because it always involve real beings such as person, technology and others. Illusion simply because of its temporality.

 

 

 

 

           

VOCATION

Vocation means calling. There are three kinds of vocation; namely, Married Life, Single Blessedness and Religious life. Let us remember we are all called by God.

 To know the call of God with us, we must reflect on what life we desire to live. Let us not just to choose life for the sake of our comfort, pleasure and others. But to choose God’s will for us. If we choose the vocation that God wants us to live, we would be happy even if there are many trials and problems we encounter. According to Fr. Glenn Alipoyo, one of the priests in our diocese, “one of the signs our vocation that we choose is right is that we are happy, and good things or action come out from that vocation.

With that, let us foresee if the vocation we wanted to live make us happy and good person. Later on, lead us to holiness.
